Close shave

From http://ianrstewart.blogspot.com/

I had a lovely birthday on a glorious day on Sunday - and it was nice that Liz came along too before she had to head back down to Lincoln again. Since then, it's been back to the old routine - that was until I had a bit of excitement last night driving home from Fraserburgh.

I'm not sure if it was the car in front of me, or the one coming the other way - in either event it was a big 4 wheel drive job. One of them sparked up a big stone which hurtled towards my windscreen. You don't often get a chance to see them - it's usually so quick that the first thing you notice is the loud crack on the screen - but, on this occasion, I saw it coming towards me, like a speeding bullet - and heading straight for my temple - straight between the eyes. What a start it gave me - and what a relief - thank God for today's safety standards in laminated windscreens.

I remember when we lived in Broxbourne, Hertfordshire, many of our near neighbours played for Tottenham Hotspur, whose training ground was just down the road in Cheshunt. Cyril Knowles (left back) was driving along the A10 dual carriageway with his son in the front seat and a similar incident occurred - but he wasn't so lucky - the stone went straight through the windscreen and caught his son in the middle of the forehead and killed him outright. I've always been a bit wary ever since.

Lucy sent over some goodies - and also the following advert from her local paper:

That's about all for now - off to the dentist's again - just checking on my gums for the implant. Last thought for the day - which terrorist organisation does this man work for?
